Blackman Signature Designs has just released a brand new CommandFusion / iViewer template for the Apple iPad, iPhone & iPod Touch. The new templates include full pages for both portrait and landscape orientation and uses the same set of subpages for each source, which allows for faster programming and the ability to view an identical button layout regardless of how you are holding your device. They have also included a set of 100 updated activity icons in two sizes, favorite channel icons for cable / satellite & satellite radio, and new pages designed specifically for home theater control. X-ray for iViewer has recently been released by C3 CustomCodeCrafters for the iPad. Taking full advantage of PNG translucency, X-ray allows the use of the background image of your choice or one of 8 optimised backgrounds provided. The subpage based layout allows full flexibility when setting out your project, including landscape and portrait versions of each, optimised to make full use of the screen real estate. Numerous subpages are included as standard, from lighting controls to video conferencing. The template comes with full palette pages for swift cutting and pasting, over 70 different icons and the option to choose between gesture controlled guiDesigner lists or standard static lists. GuiLink.com also continues to offer graphical templates for guiDesigner, along with solutions targeting other touch panel hardware manufacturers.

If you are an integrator who has already taken advantage of our free developer license for your company for an iPhone or iPod Touch, we are offering a discounted license at $99 AUD for your iPad. Simply send us an email from your registered CommandFusion address requesting the discounted license and provide us with your company name and as much detail as possible about how your company uses our software.

Remember, you can use iViewer on any personal device for free, with subpages and page flips disabled. This does NOT include client’s devices. A license is required for any installations on your client’s devices.

If you already have license credits in your account, these can be used for any device including iPad.

The update also brings a new look, with the app icon and loading screens changed to reflect our new CommandFusion logo. The website hasn’t been updated to reflect the new logo yet, but a revamp is underway.

guiDesigner 2.2.0.0 supports iPad development already - just set your project properties to 1024×768 when creating a new project. guiDesigner 2.3.0.1 will be released in the next few days which adds support for some new features available in the latest iViewer update. More info on these new features will be posted once the guiDesigner update is available, and also posted in our wiki.

Leading up to the announcement of the new 9.7″ Apple tablet, we at CommandFusion were only thinking about the home automation possibilities and anticipating the finer details regarding getting our software on such a brilliant (and affordable!) home automation interface.

After digging through the information, we discovered that our current iPhone app (CF iViewer) will also work on the iPad (albeit in a ‘2x scaled’ mode at best). But rest assured, we are working on an update for iViewer that will work on the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad, utilizing the full screen real estate for whichever device it’s running on.

Our guiDesigner software is already capable of creating interfaces for any screen size, including the 1024×768 resolution of the iPad. So as soon as the iPad is available, our software won’t be far behind.

As a dedicated home automation interface, the $499 iPad (16GB + WiFi only) running our iViewer software makes for an excellent experience, at a price point never before possible.

No longer are you restricted to one way control of lower-end systems, you can now get full 2 way control with feedback from your home automation devices, even if you don’t have a Crestron or AMX system. CommandFusion has introduced the ability to parse feedback from ANY ethernet system, using the power of regular expressions.

So now you can use commands, macros and feedback parsing to control your hardware and view feedback directly on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Our wiki has just been released to the public and is full of all kinds of helpful information. We are adding new content daily, and hope that many of our loyal customers will add their two cents to the wiki as well.

The next version of iViewer (v3.0.1) has been submitted to the App Store and is awaiting approval - keep a lookout for it, as well as an accompanying guiDesigner release.

The interface makes full use of the iViewer dynamic list capabilities, removing the need to cycle through pages of list data. Instead an intuitive flick of the finger is all that’s needed to scroll through the lists.
